VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Great volunteers ensure the success of Community Projects for Seniors. We depend on volunteers to help us with our meal delivery, outings and fund raising events.
Senior Programs
Senior programs include meal delivery (Easter, Thanksgiving & Christmas) and outings for Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, 4th of July Celebration & Picnic, and Halloween.
Senior programs are organized ONLY FOR pre-qualified senior citizens that reside in low income housing facilities. Senior programs are closed events, not open to the public.
Meal Delivery
Each holiday, approx. 140 volunteers deliver free hot meals to low income senior citizens. We ask that our volunteers be free from 10am-2pm, so that it is easier to make routes for 3,000 meals at 140 sites. Volunteers drive to one of 2 or 3 restaurant locations to pick up the meals, and then drive to an assigned senior site.
Prior to the meal delivery date, Community Projects staff schedules the required number of volunteers. If you do not get a call, it means that we have enough volunteers for that specific holiday. When you call, you are put onto a volunteer list in the order that you call. If you call a few days before the holiday, it is likely that the volunteer delivery positions have been filled.
Outings
Most outings are held in the Marian Center for Nonprofits in St. Francis. Outing volunteers work from 8am-1pm. Senior outings are on week-days during the day because the buses are available at a low rate, seniors like to be home before dark, and caterers charge a lower price because they are not as busy (as they are on weekends and in the evenings). Volunteer duties include helping seniors off the bus, assisting any senior that cannot get their own lunch and beverages, talking & dancing with seniors, and helping them to get back onto the bus. Volunteers are on their feet much of the time, but it is loads of fun and the chance to meet nice seniors and volunteers is well worth it!
Fund Raising Events
Fund raising events are open to the public of all ages. They are organized to raise funds for our senior programs. These events also provide us with an opportunity to inform the public about our mission. Fund raisers include Musical Memories and the Rooftop Party, and the sale of products (candy bars, scented candles).
We ask supporters of Community Projects to help promote our fund raisers by posting our fliers at your office, employee break room, hair salon/barber shop, any business/store. If you would be willing to distribute fliers at your workplace or elsewhere, you can photocopy the information we mail to you, or contact us and we will provide you with a stack of fliers. If you can't volunteer at a program or a fund raiser, we ask you to support our senior programs by attending fund raisers. Our volunteers have fun while helping to raise funds for low-income senior citizens. Most Community Projects fund raisers and senior programs are held in the gym at the Marian Center for Nonprofits, 3211 S. Lake Dr., St. Francis, Wisconsin.
Stuff for Kids to Do
Children and young adult volunteers are very welcome. Our kid volunteers donate time and materials to make placemats, centerpieces, home-made cards and decorate bags for our senior outings on Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day. (We do not need these items for the 4th of July picnic as wind, heat and/or rain make it difficult to decorate picnic tables outdoors.)
Placemats are used at indoor events to make the seniors feel loved and special. Draw pictures or put stickers on any type of paper, construction paper, or plain place mats. Drawings may be holiday specific, flowers, animals or anything you like to draw. Write something like We Love Seniors.
Centerpieces. Make them holiday specific or make flowers to brighten up their tables.
Home-made cards. Fold paper to a greeting card-size and write something like Happy Holidays, We love you, Seniors are cool, a joke, or a funny story. Our goal is to make a senior smile. Sign cards with first name to make it more personal.
Decorate bags. Draw on or put stickers on brown paper bags. Be holiday-specific if you wish. Otherwise, flowers or another generic themes are fine. Bring them to our office at least 4 weeks prior to any holiday. We'll fill them.
Decorations. Older kids can help set up and decorate the gym for each indoor senior outing.
If your family, school group or club would like to create and donate any of the above items, please call our office at (414) 444-6544.
Fund Raising events are not organized for low income seniors to attend. Fund Raising events are open to the public and are organized to raise funds for our program events.
